Our company got to be a part of completing the multi-purpose center that now serves as the home for Phoenix athletics and provides a gathering space for academic events and the community.
The Schar Center “marks a new era at Elon,” stated the president of Elon University in the fall of 2018 when the new 160,000 square-foot facility opened on campus. It was an exciting time for Elon, as well as High Rock Land & Hardscapes.
The Schar Center is more than twice the size of the school’s original gym, with various spaces for sporting events, offices, and event rooms. The flexible spacing on the inside is a key feature, but the outside of the center is impressive, too. As visitors approach the entrance they are welcomed by a beautiful landscape of flowers, trees and shrubs. There are benches that invite folks to relax and enjoy the outdoors, as well as a bronze sculpture of a phoenix rising out of the front walkway.
High Rock worked on the project for over 6 months installing irrigation, sod, and landscaping in the parking islands, pond area, and around the building itself.
There were many contractors working to make the transformation happen. We were able to communicate effectively to stay organized, on schedule and within budget to ensure our piece was a success.
